Colin Maskell

Jazz

Born and raised in Vancouver, now residing in Bulkley Valley of BC, Colin Maskell performs on all the saxophones and flute with several groups operating out of Vancouver and Smithers. These include Tambura Rasa, The Robin Layne Group, Hilly Billy Scrabble, Way North of Dixie, Stolen Moments Jazz trio, Werewolves, and his own funk world jazz fusion group, Red Dwarf.  Colin has toured extensively in Canada with such groups as the Unsupervised, Five Alarm Funk, the Molestics, and Greenroom.  Since 2005 he has also kept busy as an educator, notably at New Westminster Secondary School until 2009 when he resigned to tour, play more music, study, and travel.  Colin maintained a foothold in pedagogy by remaining as a Teacher on Call in Vancouver and New Westminster and as a clinician for jazz retreats with various high schools in the Lower Mainland.  Recently married, he moved to Smithers, BC in the beautiful Bulkley Valley where he continues his passion for music and education by playing and teaching in Smithers; developing music both in the Valley and in Vancouver.  He is the current music teacher at Walnut Park Elementary School that boasts 380 students and, as well, directs the two elementary district bands.
